Barbados Royals finally scampered through to their first win in their last match and that has rendered the tournament well and truly open. All teams are still pretty much in contention to qualify to the next round of Caribbean Premier League 2021 and the next few matches are going to be mighty exciting.
Up next in the tournament, Barbados Royals are set to take on Jamaica Tallawahs in an all-important contest. The match is to be played on the evening of 30th August 2021 at Warner Park Sporting Complex, Basseterre, St Kitts, and Nevis. Although the two sides are currently placed at contrasting positions on the ladder, this is expected to be a closely fought encounter. This could certainly be a feast for the fans.
The change in their playing eleven seemed to have done it for Barbados Royals as they registered their first win after a two-match drought. Their win coincided with the inclusion of Raymon Reifer into the team and that decision proved to be of significant importance in the hindsight. The Royals always had a good side and now with newfound momentum, they could be the team to watch out for.
In their previous fixture, which coincidentally was against Tallawahs, the Royals did make some mistakes but eventually proved to be too good for the star-studded Tallawahs. Batting first on a rather tricky surface, none of their top-order batsmen managed to get going and it took a measured fifty from Glenn Phillips to take them to a respectable total of 161. Reifer's 31-run cameo turned out to be pretty handy as well.
However, it was the bowling where the Royals turned the tables. The bowlers were at the Tallawahs right from the word go as Mohammad Amir, Jason Holder, and Raymon Reifer all bowled in tight channels. Hayden Walsh Jr went wicketless, but he bowled beautifully to keep things quiet. Eventually, the Royals emerged on top as the Tallawahs succumbed to the pressure build by the Royals' bowlers.
The win lifted the Royals from the bottom of the ladder to the fifth spot, making this upcoming match of vital importance. They still have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.564 and will want to improve that going forward. On paper, the Royals have a pretty balanced side, and having found the perfect combination, they could be a tough team to handle. If they manage to perform to their potential, beating them is going to be a colossal task for Jamaica Tallawahs.
Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Kyle Mayers, GD Phillips, Jason Holder, Azam Khan, Raymon Reifer, Oshane Thomas, Mohammad Amir, Joshua Bishop, Hayden Walsh.
Jamaica Tallawahs may have lost their previous match, but they would not be too worried, yet. They are still played at the second spot on the ladder, albeit on the back of their superior net run-rate, and another win here would be enough to keep them there. A loss here, however, will certainly send the alarm bells ringing for them.
So far, Tallawahs' campaign has been a story of two contrasting performances. In their first match - against St Lucia Zouks, they scored a mammoth total of 255 batting first whereas in their second match - against the Royals, they failed to chase down a total of 161. Their bowling, on the other hand, has more or less been the same.
Against the Royals, none of the batsmen from their star-stuffed lineup looked convincing as they lost nine wickets for a total of 146 in a rather straightforward chase. Shamarh Brooks did score 47 but scored those runs at a pedestrian pace. Their over-reliance on their hard-hitting middle-order was well and truly apparent for the Tallawahs.
On paper, Jamaica Tallawhas have a side that can beat even the best on their days and can struggle against ordinary sides when it's not their day. This was evident against the Royals, even though the Royals are not an ordinary side by any stretch of the imagination. On the bowling front, the Tallawahs lack someone experienced and might struggle at the death against accomplished played. Here again, there is clear over-reliance on Andre Russell to do the job.
All in all, Jamaica Tallawahs have a team full of match-winners and consistency is going to be key for them. If their uncapped players can support the senior players, Jamaica Tallawahs could be an incredibly difficult side to get past.
CAK Walton, K Lewis, Haider Ali, Rovman Powell, Shamarh Brooks, Carlos Brathwaite, Andre Russell, Migael Pretorius, Christopher Green, Veerasammy Permaul, FH Edwards.

Barbados Royals and Jamaica Tallawahs have adopted two very different approaches respectively in this competition. While Tallawahs have a side suited for a slam, bang, and wallop brand of cricket, the Royals' side look more likely to adopt an orthodox approach. Comparing the two sides, the Royals appear to be having a better-balanced unit. Besides, they are coming off a rather convincing win over Tallawahs and should be brimming with confidence. We will be placing our money on a Barbados Royals win and so should you.
Barbados Royals and Jamaica Tallawahs both have some terrific hitters available at their disposal. Besides, the likes of Andre Russell, Glenn Phillips, Carlos Brathwaite, and Johnson Charles all have enough capability to single-handedly drive the scoreline. Largely because of the sheer firepower and partially because of the odds we are getting, it makes all the sense to bet on the match total to be more than 305.
Mohammad Amir has looked in terrific rhythm so far and scoring off him has been incredibly difficult. He bowls in the powerplay and at the death, making him more likely to pick up wickets. Considering that and the form he is in, bet on Mohammad Amir to be the best bowler of the day for the Royals.
We have seen incredible batting performances over the last few months across the twenty-over competitions. However, only a few players have been as consistent as Glenn Phillips. He has done remarkably well since the beginning of the year and looks in terrific form in the CPL as well. Hitting a personal score of 21 or more should be a walk in the park for him. Bet on Glenn Phillips to score over 20 runs.
