We are quite early into the competition in Women's Super Smash 2021, but the points table is already beginning to take shape. There is a clear line of separation emerging between the top three and the bottom three sides on the ladder. Otago Sparks have been flawless up until now whereas Central Hinds and Northern Districts Women have both failed to register even one win so far.
Up next in the competition, Central Hinds Women are set to take on Otago Sparks Women in what is basically a contest between two sides placed at the two opposite spectrums of the points table. The match between the two sides is to be played on 18th December 2021 at McLean Park, Napier.
Placed one spot from the bottom of the points table, Central Hinds Women have so far been the worst performing side of the tournament. Thanks to their slightly better net run rate than that of Northern District Women, they are not yet at the bottom. However, they have played one more match than them and another loss here will push them further into the pit.
In the three matches gone so far, Central Hinds Women have been so dismal that they have not even been able to fight their opponents well enough. Their batting has been their limiting factor as their highest total in the three matches gone by stands at 137, which was in their last match.
In their last match, which was against Canterbury Magicians Women, they managed to put up a total of 137 on the board, a total that was about par, but their bowlers could not really create enough opportunities to push Magicians out of the game. Magicians Women eventually won the match by six wickets with one delivery to spare.
On paper, Central Hinds have a side equipped with talent and we saw its potential in their first match as they fought hard with the Sparks. Having said that, they could not keep up with their performance and lost their subsequent matches with considerable ease. They do lack experience and that could become a big concern in crunch situations. Having said that, if the Hinds Women are able to play to their potential, they should be able to match any given side in the tournament.

Otago Storm Women have undoubtedly been the best side in the tournament thus far and their position on the points table reflects that. With three wins in three matches already, Storm Women are placed at the top of the ladder. They have a total of six points to their name coupled with a terrific net run rate of 1.256, which just shows the dominance they have shown in the competition thus far.
Otago Sparks Women started off their campaign with a relatively narrow win over Central Hinds Women, but then followed that up with two back to back massive wins. Their batting and bowling both did a remarkable job against Northern Districts Women, which they faced in their second match of the competition.
Most recently, the Sparks Women are coming off a win over Northern Districts Women in a match that was also their first experience of batting second in this edition of competition. Chasing a total of 135, the Sparks Women were not fluent, but managed to always keep themselves well within the game. They eventually won the match with two balls to spare and four wickets in hand.
Otago Sparks have a decent amount of experience available in the form of Suzie Bates and Hayley Jensen and that has worked wonders for them. Besides, their youngsters have impressed with their consistency so far, which could be the game-changing factor going forward. If Otago Storm Women are able to keep up their consistency and execution, they will be a very difficult side to deal with in the tournament up ahead.

As this is a morning game, there will be some assistance on offer for the quicker bowlers in the early part of the day. The ball is likely to swing and seam and negotiating those first few overs could be tricky. Also, the surface is expected to get better as the day progresses. For that reason, we expect the captain winning the toss to bowl first.

This is a ground with short boundaries and batsmen will get complete value for their shots. Bowlers too should be pretty interested in getting out to play as the surface conditions will be in bowlers' favor. With the sun forecasted to shine bright, it is going to be an excellent day for Cricket. A total of around 145 will be about par here.

The two sides have had contrasting runs respectively in the tournament gone so far and will both be desperate to come out on top in this upcoming contest. On paper and on the basis of recent form, Otago Storm Women have been a better side thus far. Also, they have already defeated Central Hinds Women in this competition before and should, therefore, be more confident of the two sides. For that and the other reasons stated above, betting on a Otago Storm Women win should be the way to go here in this match.
Suzie Bates has not only been one of the best batsmen for Otago Storm, but also among all the sides in the tournament. He has scored consistently and has a wealth of experience behind her. She bats at the top of the order and will have ample chances to get set and then go for the big shots. Considering the form she is in, it makes all the sense on her to be the best batsmen for the Sparks.
Although the grounds in New Zealand are small and boundary hitting is easy, teams have not been able to do so in the tournament so far. We have already seen a string of low scoring matches and that has been due to bowling-friendly conditions. We expect a low scoring affair here in this match and we will be betting on not batsmen scoring a fifty and so should you.
