We are just past the midway mark in the Lanka Premier League 2021 and the points table has just been rendered well alive by a fantastic win by Kandy Warriors. With all teams still with a chance to progress to the next round, the upcoming matches are going to be of massive importance.
Up next in the tournament, Dambulla Giants are set to take on Jaffna Kings in an important top-of-the-table contest. The two sides are both striving hard to finish at the top and they both will be desperate to get a win here. This upcoming match between Dambulla Giants and Jaffna Kings is to be played at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium, Colombo on 13th December 2021.
Dambulla Giants have so far struggled with consistency in the competition, but they won't be too worried - yet. They are still in a pretty good position as far as the progression to the next round is concerned and another couple of wins should put them fairly on track to finish among the top two sides on the points table.
Currently, as well, the Giants are placed at the second spot on the ladder with seven points to their name, courtesy of three wins, and one no-result. However, they have a pretty poor net run rate to go with their successful results, which indicates that they have not been as dominating as they would have wanted to be. All of their wins have come in with narrow margins whereas the loss they experienced came in with the Kings having 45 balls and eight wickets to spare.
In their most recent match, Dambulla Giants just managed to edge past Colombo Stars after making a subpar total batting first. Thanks to some terrific bowling by the Stars, the Giants managed to put just 138 runs on the board and they ended up defending that by just one run.
All in all, Dambulla Giants have done just enough to make their presence felt as far as the competition is concerned. They are still far from what they are capable of and if they can do that in this upcoming match, they should be able to put up a strong fight against the rampaging Kings' unit.

Jaffna Kings got off to the worst possible start to the tournament, but have not looked back ever since. After they were done with their first match, they occupied the floor on the points table, but with four back to back wins, they are now placed at the top. As it currently stands, the Kings have eight points from five matches coupled with a spectacular net run rate of 1.747.
In all of their four wins, Jaffna Kings have been fluent with bat and ball both. After racking up an embarrassing loss in their first match, the Kings defeated Dambulla Giants, Kandy Warriors, Colombo Stars, and Kandy Warriors in successive matches and will be looking to keep their winning run intact. Against the Warriors, which was in their most recent match, the Warriors won the match by seven wickets in what was reduced to a ten-over game due to inclement weather conditions.
On paper, the Kings have a terrific T20 side and their form is enough to prove that. The likes of Shoaib Malik, Thisara Perera, and Upul Tharanga add much-needed experience to the side and the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva, Maheesh Theekshana, and Avishka Fernando add to the flair. This combination has worked wonders and will be very difficult to get past. All in all, the Kings seem to be having all their bases covered and if they are able to play to their on-paper potential, beating them is going to be incredibly difficult even for the high-flying Giants.
WU Tharanga, Avishka Fernando, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Shoaib Malik, Ashen Bandara, Thisara Perera, Wanidu Hasaranga, Chaturanga de Silva, Maheesh Theekshana, Jayden Seales, Usman Khan Shinwari.

This is an important match in the scheme of things, largely because the winner will hold the upper hand at the top of the ladder. The two sides have already met before and should produce a contest lot closer than what they produced earlier in the competition. Comparing the form and the on-paper combination of the two sides, betting on a Jaffna Kings win should be the way to go here.
