Glamorgan and Durham are the two sides that had a relatively slow start to their campaigns in the English domestic season this year, but they certainly seem to finish off their respective campaigns on a high note. One of those two sides will end up with the One Day Cup title, while the other one will have to stay content with the runners-up tag.
The grand finale of the Royal London One Day Cup 2021 is to be played between Glamorgan and Durham at the iconic venue of Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, London. The match is set to be played on Thursday, August 19, 2021. The two sides have not played against each other since August 2014 and this match should be a spectacle for everyone. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards on Thursday.
Glamorgan have arguably been one of the better sides in the tournament and they thoroughly deserve to be in the finale. They were brilliant in the group stage as they finished at the top of the Group 2 points table and then defeated Essex to qualify for the grand finale. They played spectacularly well in the semi-final as they emerged on top with a couple of wickets in hand.
In the last match, Hamish Rutherford and Joe Cooke looked in terrific form as they slammed match-defining fifties each to put their side into a position to dictate terms. They both have been in pretty good form in the tournament as well, but the man who has carried them is Nick Selman. Selman has scored heaps of runs and has 385 runs to his name. Apart from him, Hamish Rutherford has scored 293 runs at a rapid strike rate.
All in all, Glamorgan have not only been in good form, but they also have a decent side on paper. If they can continue riding on their luck and playing as they have, Durham will have their work cut out.
Hamish Rutherford, Nicholas Selman, Kiran Carlson, Billy Root, Steven Reingold, Tom Cullen, Joe Cooke, Andrew Salter, James Weighell, Lukas Carey, Michael Hogan.
Durham were arguably the best side not only in their group but also in the tournament. They finished at the top of the points table in their group and then defeated Surrey with considerable ease in a high-scoring encounter. We saw contributions coming in from most of their players as they stormed into the grand finale.
Durham are one of the sides least affected by the Hundred and still have experience available with them. Graham Clark and Alex Lees form the backbone of their batting and they have not been disappointed thus far. Chris Rushworth and Paul van Meekeren together have been brilliant with the ball, picking up 30 wickets in total.
Overall, Durham are in a kind of form that most teams dream to be in. They lost just one match in the group stage and that speaks volumes about their consistency. If they do not get complacent and continue to do as they have done, beating them is going to be incredibly difficult.
Graham Clark, Alex Lees, Scott Borthwick, David Bedingham, Cameron Bancroft, Sean Dickson, Liam Trevaskis, Ben Raine, Matthew Potts, Doneathy, Chris Rushworth.
This is an important match for two reasons. One, it is a final and both sides would want to want to claim the trophy. Second, both sides have not as well as they would have liked in recent times. Considering the two sides on paper and their respective form, Durham seem ahead. They have a fantastic batting unit that is in terrific form. For that reason, betting on a Durham win should be the way to go here.
