We are about a week into the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 and things are looking extremely bright and exciting in both the groups. We have already seen some exceptionally fought contests and expect the trend to only get better going forward. Up next in the tournament, Somerset will be taking on Hampshire in a match that is important for both, but for different reasons. The match is to be played at The Rose Bowl, Southampton.
Hampshire have not been off to the kind of start they would have wanted, but can really turn things around if they are able to put up a successful performance here in this match. They have played just one game so far and looked far from their best as they ended up losing the match by 10 runs to Middlesex.
Even though Hampshire are currently languishing at the bottom of the points table, a win here will push them back into the middle part of the ladder. They have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.500 at the moment and would want to get that in order too.
Hampshire would indeed be feeling a bit disappointed as they had an excellent chance to get off to a winning start in their match against Middlesex. They controlled the game for most phases only to bottle it towards the end. The good thing is that they have their experienced players in prime form and could make it count in this upcoming match. James Vince, Aneurin Donald, and Ben McDermott looked good in their short respective stints at the crease against Middlesex and would all be a threat to deal with.
On the bowling front, Hampshire are well equipped in all departments and it was well apparent in their outing against Middlesex. All they would need is good support from their fourth and fifth bowlers and if they can get that well, Hampshire would be in business, especially given the batting unit they have.
Ben McDermott, Aneurin Donald, James Vince, Joe Weatherley, Liam Dawson, Ross Whiteley, James Fuller, Nathan Ellis, Chris Wood, Mason Crane, Bradley Wheal.
With two wins in two matches, Somerset have undoubtedly been the best side of the tournament thus far. They may be trailing on the ladder at the moment, right behind Middlesex, but a win here will push them to the top and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
As depicted by their superb net run rate of 1.225, Somerset have been utterly dominant in the competition up until now. They are coming into this match on the back of a six-wicket win over Essex in a game that was decided on DLS method.
Even though Somerset have done well in the season, they have their fair share of issues that they will be looking to take care of as soon as possible. Tom Banton has not looked in a form as good as he is capable of and might be a little low on confidence. Having said that, the likes of Rilee Rossouw and Tom Abell have covered well for them. Somerset also have a deep batting unit with the likes of Tom Lammomby, Lewis Gregory, and Lewis Goldsworthy available in the late order.
On the bowling front as well, Somerset have plenty of excellent resources who all are capable of pinning any opposition down regardless of the conditions. With options available, Somerset can afford bowlers to have an off day. Given the side Somerset have on paper, all they will need to do is to play to their potential and if they are able to do that, getting past them could prove to be incredibly difficult.
Tom Banton, Will Smeed, Rilee Rossouw, Thomas Abell, Tom Lammonby, Lewis Gregory, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, RE Van Der Merwe, Marchant de Lange, Josh Davey.

This is an important match for both these sides, albeit for different reasons. Somerset would want to regain their top of the table position with a win here whereas a win for Hampshire will bring them back into the reckoning. Although it is a small sample size, Somerset do appear ahead, considering how the two sides have done so far. Somerset also have a slightly better-balanced side between the two. Keeping those and the other aforementioned factors into consideration, we would be placing our bets on a Somerset win and so should you.
