Jaffna Kings completed their fifth consecutive win of the Lanka Premier League 2021 and are now looking all set to finish at the top of the ladder in the tournament. While the top of the table position is more or less certain given the Kings' form and record, the race to occupy the remaining three slots is still wide and open.
Up next in the competition, Kandy Warriors will be taking on Colombo Stars in what will be the encounter between the bottom dwellers of the ladder. Both these sides have so far failed to perform to the expectations and will want to chase things moving into the second half of the competition. The match between the two sides will be played on 14th December 2021 at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.
Just like the Stars, Kandy Warriors have been far from fluent in the competition so far. They just managed to register their first win of the tournament in their last match and will now be looking to extend their winning run. Even though they have not been at their best, they have fought well and can prove to be a strong opponent in the dying stages of the league stage.
From a total of five matches played, Kandy Warriors have won and lost four. With a total of two points, they are currently placed at the bottom of the ladder and have a dismal net run rate of -0.496. A win here will push them a slot up on the ladder, which can prove to be game-changing for them in the context of the larger things.
Kandy Warriors have a decent enough team on paper, but they have not been at their best yet. Their lower middle order has not fired as they would have wanted them to and it could prove to be a factor in this upcoming match as well. Having said that, if they are able to play to their potential, beating them is going to be incredibly difficult.
K Lewis, Charith Asalanka, Ahmed Shehzad, Tom Moores, Angelo Perera, Kamindu Mendis, RS Bopara, Nimesh Vimukthi, Sachindu Colombage, Binura Fernando, Lahiru Kumara.
Exactly opposite to Jaffna Kings, Colombo Starts got off to a fantastic start to the tournament, but they failed to utilize the momentum and lost three matches from their remaining four. Even though they are still pretty much in business as far as qualification for the next round is concerned, things could slip out of their hands if they are not able to step up their game in this upcoming encounter.
As it currently stands, Colombo Stars are placed at the fourth spot on the ladder with two wins from five matches. Besides, they have a terrible net run rate of -0.532, which is the second-worst among all sides in the tournament. A win here, however, will push them to the second spot on the ladder and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
On paper, the Colombo Stars have a decent side, but they have not managed to execute their plans to perfection. They would want to do that in this upcoming match and if they can do that, beating them is going to be very difficult.
Angelo Mathews, Pathum Nissanka, Ashan Priyanjan, S Prasanna, Sherfane Rutherford, Dinesh Chandimal, Dhananjaya de Silva, Thikshila de Silva, PVD Chameera, Naveen-ul-Haq, Ravi Rampaul.

This is the match between the bottom-dwellers on the points table and could prove to be an interesting spectacle. Both these sides are in desperate need of a win and will come out all guns blazing. Considering the recent form and the on-paper combination of the two sides, picking Colombo Stars as the winners for this match is the way to go.
