We are down to the final few matches in the men's edition of the Hundred are things are going to get very exciting at the top. As many as five teams are still running for the top spot and the competition is getting increasingly exciting with every passing match. Barring London Spirits, no team is out of the contention, yet.
Up next in the tournament, Manchester Originals are all set to take on London Originals in a game that will likely define the Originals' future in the tournament. The match will be played at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Manchester on 10th August 2021.
Manchester Originals are placed at the fourth spot on the ladder and are pretty much in contention to progress to the next round, largely because they still have a couple of matches to go. They had a poor start to their campaign as they lost their first match to Oval Invincibles, but have done pretty well since then.
After Jos Buttler leaving, the Originals have relied heavily on the likes of Colin Munro, Lokie Ferguson, and Carlos Brathwaite and they have not disappointed. Besides, the Originals have a decent set of domestic talent available as well with the likes of Steven Finn and Matt Parkinson doing good.
Considering that the Originals have been on a roll despite Buttler's absence is evidence enough about the balance they have. They have been in prime form and will not be an easy side to deal with in the upcoming contest.
Philip Salt, Joe Clarke, Colin Munro, Colin Ackermann, Tom Lammonby, Carlos Brathwaite, Calvin Harrison, Tom Hartley, Lockie Ferguson, Fred Klaassen, Matt Parkinson.
Led by the most successful limited-overs captain in English Cricket, London Spirits are still searching for answers. They are yet to win a match in the tournament and that can be attributed to the poor form they have shown with the bat. They have come close on multiple occasions, but have converted none.
The only point that the Spirits have has come in because of the wash-out they experienced a few days ago. With five matches gone already and just one point to their name, London Spirits are officially out of the race. Having said that, they still can have a massive say in who gets to qualify for the playoffs.
On paper, London Spirit have a number of T20 stars available at their disposal but the execution has been lacking. The likes of Josh Inglis, Joe Denly, Eoin Morgan, and Mohammad Nabi can be a pain to bowl against, but they have just not been at their best it the competition. London Spirits now have one of the final few chances to show what they are capable of and they will not want that chance to go away. If they manage to play to their potential in this upcoming match, beating Spirit will be a difficult task even for the high-flying Originals.
Adam Rossington, Josh Inglis, Joe Cracknell, Eoin Morgan, Luis Reece, RS Bopara, Mohammad Nabi, RE Van Der Merwe, Blake Cullen, Bradley Wheal, Mason Crane.
Both sides have had contrasting runs thus far and will need a win here for different reasons. A win here for the Originals will put them in the top-drawer to qualify for the playoffs whereas for London Spirits it is all about redeeming the lost pride. The Spirits have nothing to lose now and might be at their dangerous best. Having said that, Manchester Originals have a better balanced and in-form side that will be difficult to contend with. Considering that and the other factors mentioned above, betting on an Originals win should be the way to go here.
