With ICC World Cup T20 2021 done and dusted, the focus will now move to the other, domestic and international, matches being played around. India is set to host New Zealand in a couple of days from now and it will be interesting to see how they fare after having a dreadful World Cup campaign.
In another tournament, domestic, Maharashtra is set to take on Vidarbha in what has already been a fantastic competition up until now. The two teams finished among the top two sides in their group and should make up for a terrific contest. The match between the two sides is to be played at the Feroz Shah Kotla Cricket Stadium, Delhi on 16th November 2021.
Maharashtra did a solid job in the group stage and even had a terrific net run rate to complement their splendid run, but will still need to play the pre-quarterfinal as head-to-head is the tie-breaker criteria for the teams tied on points. With 16 points to their name, thanks to four wins in five matches. Besides, they finished the group stage with a fantastic net run-rate of 2.277, which is not going to be of any significance hereon.
The biggest setback to Maharashtra's campaign in the knockouts is going to be the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad, who will now be part of India's squad in the series against New Zealand. Ruturaj Gaikwad was not only the skipper of the side, but also was the side's top scorer and filling his boots is going to be a big challenge.
On paper, Maharashtra do have a decent side and that is evident by the show they managed to put in the group stage. They were beaten only by Tamil Nadu and should be able to present a tough challenge for Vidarbha. If they are able to deal with the absence of Ruturaj Gaikwad well, they should manage to do pretty well in this upcoming contest.
Ashay Palkar, Yash Nahar, Kedar Jadhav, Azim Kazi, Naushad Shaikh, Satyajeet Bachhav, Ranjeet Nikam, Divyang Himganekar, Mukesh Choudhary, Sunil Yadav, Rahul Tripathi.
Even though Vidarbha did not have the star players available at their disposal, they were easily the best side of their group. So good were they in the group stage that they proved to be no match for the rest of the pack. They won all of their five matches, finishing up with 20 points to their name and a terrific net run rate of 4.967.
The key to their splendid performance was Akshay Karnewar, who used the surface fabulously to his advantage. Batting, however, was a bit of a weak link for Vidarbha as they failed to rack up above par totals more often than not. It is going to be a significant factor when they take on a potent batting team and that happens to be just in their next game.
Vidarbha have a decent side that has a solid history of doing well in the knockout games. Their bowling unit is as good as any and if they can get their batting sorted and consistent, they will be a very difficult side to deal with.
Akshay Wakhare, AV Wankhade, Akshay Wadkar, Jitesh Sharma, Siddhesh Wath, Akshay Karnewar, Yash Thakur, Atharva Taide, Darshan Nalkande, Shubham Dubey, Lalit Yadav.

Being a knockout fixture, it is needless to say this is an important fixture. Both sides are going to come out hard at each other and they both have their strengths and weaknesses. Comparing the two sides on the basis of recent form, Vidarbha are clearly ahead.
