We are moving to the final stage of the Women's Big Bash League and things still look pretty tight. Apart from Sydney Thunder Women and Hobart Hurricanes, all six teams are well in it to qualify for the next round. The next week is going to be a crucial week to determine the fates of the sides hanging on the edge.
Up next in the competition, Melbourne Stars Women are set to take on Perth Scorchers Women to clear out the mid-table muddle. Both these teams have a strong set of players, who have not yet performed to their peak potential in the tournament thus far. The match between the two sides will be played at Karen Rolton Oval, Adelaide on 10th November 2021.
Melbourne Stars Women started off as one of the favorites to lift the title, but they have certainly left almost everyone surprised with their subpar performance in the tournament thus far. They started off with a narrow loss in a rain-inflicted encounter and have been a little too inconsistent in the matches that were played thereafter.
Currently placed at the fifth spot on the points table, this match will be a make-or-break game for the Stars as far as staying in the hunt in the tournament is concerned. A win here will push them to the fourth spot, but a loss from here will put them in a spot of bother. Even though they will continue to hand-in in the tournament even if they lose, their qualification will then depend on the net run rate and the results of the other matches.
Melbourne Stars Women are coming off a massive win at the hands of Melbourne Renegades Women as they were defeated by a fairly big margin of seven wickets. On paper, the Stars Women have decent firepower in the bank with the likes of Meg Lanning, Elysse Villani, and Kim Garth available. Villani and Lanning, in particular, have been brilliant with the bat in the recent matches and a lot will rest on their shoulders. If they continue to build on their form and are able to get ample support from the rest of the players, getting past Stars will be a tough task.
Elyse Villani, Meg Lanning, Annabel Sutherland, Maia Bouchier, Kim Garth, Erin Osborne, Nicole Faltum, Tess Flintoff, Linsey Smith, Sophie Day, Rhys McKenna.
Perth Scorchers Women have one of the better-balanced sides of the tournament, but inconsistency and ability or lack thereof to close out close games have been the hallmark of their performance this season. They have been in the position of strength on multiple occasions, but failure to convert those into points hurt them. Having said that, they are still in a pretty good position as far as qualification for the next round is concerned.
As it currently stands, Perth Scorchers Women are placed at the third spot on the points table with five wins in nine matches. They have a total of 11 points with a net run rate of 0.316, which is decent enough should things get tight as well.
Perth Scorchers Women got off to a rather slow start but as the tournament has progressed, they have started to pick up some pace. They are coming off a good win over Hobart Hurricanes Women in their previous match and will be looking to build on their winning streak.
On paper, the Scorchers depend heavily on the likes of Beth Mooney and Sophie Devine, and much to their delight, those two players have not disappointed yet. Having said that, we have not seen a lot of contribution coming in from players apart from the usual suspects. That is one area that the Scorchers Women would want to improve in and if they are able to do that, getting past them will be remarkably difficult.
Beth Mooney, Chamari Atapattu, M Carmichael, Heather Graham, Lisa Griffith, Marizanne Kapp, Alana King, Lilly Mills, Taneale Peschel, Chloe Piparo, Sophie Devine.

These are the two sides that are both well-balanced on paper but have not performed at their peak potential yet. Melbourne Stars Women have faltered in crunch moments and Scorchers have not done any different either. Having said that, the Scorchers have improved their game massively in recent matches, and primarily because of the same reason, they are our pick as firm favorites for the upcoming match. Back Perth Scorchers Women to emerge on top in this upcoming fixture.
