With the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League done and dusted, the focus now moves to the lesser-known leagues in the world as far as the T20s are concerned. With some fantastic exhibition at display, Vitality T20 Blast 2022 is already grabbing plenty of eyeballs. We have seen some hard-fought matches already and are up for a mouth-watering round of cricket up next.
Next in the North Group of the tournament, Nottinghamshire are set to take on Lancashire Lightning in a match that will be important for both these sides to evade the mid-table rut. Both these sides have been pretty consistent over the years and should put up a cracker of a contest. The match is to be played at the Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Nottingham on Tuesday, 31st May 2022.
Just like the Notts, Lancashire Lightning too have a side that has experienced T20 campaigners available right through the lineup. They started off their journey with a tie against Yorkshire, having to share a point with the White Roses in their derby match.
In the tournament up until now, Lancashire have looked at their pristine best, especially with most of their players available. Their strength is being reflected on the ladder too as they are placed third with 3 points to their name in two matches. Besides, they have a decent net run rate of 0.300, which can come in handy at the back-end of the tournament.
With Liam Livingstone and Tim David available, Lancashire Lightning are looking an intimidating side even with Jos Buttler unavailable. Keaton Jennings and Phil Salt look a formidable opening pair and although they have not yet managed a massive opening partnership, they have been effective enough as a pair.
On the bowling front as well, Lancashire Lightning have done well with the likes of Richard Gleeson and Matt Parkinson available. With Livingstone and David both capable enough to bowl, skipper Dane Vilas has multiple options to look up to, in case things do not go as planned with the ball.
All in all, Lancashire Lightning have all their bases covered and even though they are yet to hit their peak potential, they have looked solid. A lot will depend on how their power-hitters do at a venue known for high-totals. If the batting manages to fire for them, Lancashire Lightning will be a very difficult side to get past here.

Nottinghamshire have played only a couple of matches now and one of those was washed out due to rain before the conclusion. They started off their campaign with an important and convincing win over the Worcestershire Rapids, defeating them by four-wickets in a tight game.
On the points table at the moment, they are placed at the second spot with three points from two matches and a net run rate of 0.342. A win here will strengthen their position here at the second spot, displacing Lancashire Lightning from there, providing them with an excellent chance to have a go at the top spot, at least in the interim.
With batting and bowling both oozing some of the most experienced players of the format, Nottinghamshire Outlaws look well equipped. Having said that, their batting looked a bit iffy in the first match and it wasn't too different a case in the second before rain stopped further proceedings.
Given the experience and firepower the Notts have at their disposal, they have clearly underperformed up until now. They would need to be at their best going forward, especially against Lancashire. If they can do that, they will be well in business, especially while playing at their home turf.
Philip Salt, Keaton Jennings, Steven Croft, Dane Vilas, Liam Livingstone, Tim David, Danny Lamb, Luke Wood, Tom Hartley, Matt Parkinson, Richard Gleeson.
The two sides - Lancashire and Nottinghamshire, are neck and neck on the points table and this match will act as a separator on the ladder. Given the on-paper combination of the two sides, there's little to choose between the two. Performance-wise, however, Lancashire Lightning have looked a little better with consistent performances from their batters and bowlers in both the matches that they have played up until now. Considering that and the other factors stated above, Lancashire Lightning are our pick to emerge on top in this upcoming contest.
