After a long tussle, a big bout of obstacles, and plenty of uncertainties, we finally have two finalists in Big Bash League 2021. Sydney Sixers just managed to get past Adelaide Strikers in the challenger match thereby becoming the second team to qualify for the grand finale. Thanks to a splendid run in the league stage, Perth Scorchers had already qualified for the finale long ago.
The two teams will now meet each other on 28th January 2022 at Marvel Stadium, Docklands. These two sides have a remarkable history when it comes to BBL knockouts. They have met four in four finales up until now and the honors are with each team having two wins to their name. Besides, both these sides have had two titles each to their name already and both sides will be chasing what could be their fourth BBL crown. A cracker of a contest is certainly on the cards here.
Scorchers were undoubtedly the best side of the tournament up until the end of the league stage and progressed to the grand finale after beating Sydney Sixers in the qualifier match. They had all the elements of a quality side in the group stage and the numbers show that. Finishing at the top of the table, they were defeated only twice - on both occasions by Sydney Thunder.
Perth Scorchers scored the most number of runs in the group stage and only one team scored at a better rate than the Scorchers. With their key players back after completing their Ashes duty, Perth Scorchers look stronger than ever. Josh Inglis and Jhye Richardson are back and will walk into the playing eleven straight. One big miss for them could be Tymal Mills, who has left for national duty with England playing against West Indies.
The key man for the Scorchers will be Kurtis Patterson, who has scored consistently and at a rapid pace. With the likes of Colin Munro, Mitchell March, Josh Inglis, and Ashton Turner available alongside him, they have a terrific batting unit that goes deep. The presence of versatile all-rounders in Ashton Agar and Mitchel Marsh allows them to have terrific depth without really compromising with their bowling unit.
All in all, Perth Scorchers have a terrific side, on paper as well as on the basis of form. They have not played for a while and they would need to ensure that they do not get caught off guard after this break. If they can do that, beating them is going to be incredibly difficult.
Kurtis Patterson, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Colin Munro, Ashton Turner, Laurie Evans, Ashton Agar, Jhye Richardson, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou.
It was a humongous effort from Sydney Sixers to get past Adelaide Strikers despite missing several of their key players. So poor was their situation that they had to field their assistant coach to complete their playing eleven. They are still going to be short of players going into the final and it would be interesting to see what their final playing eleven looks like.
Josh Phillipe, Daniel Edwards, and Jack Edwards have all been ruled out of the upcoming match and Sydney Sixers desperately look short of experienced batsmen. Having said that, they will also take heart from the way Hayden Kerr played in the previous match to take his side home. Their misery doesn't end here. Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk are both doubtful starters for the upcoming contesting, hampering their already depleted unit. The only boost they have is perhaps the availability of Nathan Lyon, who will add strength to their bowling attack.
All in all, Sydney Sixers have already done an excellent job to make it to the final, especially with the team they have. They would need their experienced stars in Dan Christian, Sean Abbot, and Ben Dwarshius to fire, and make no mistake, they are all very capable players. It would need a special effort from the Sixers and if they are able to find someone to do the job, they will certainly be in business.
Hayden Kerr, Nicholas Bertus, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, DT Christian, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Jay Lenton, Jackson Bird, Nathan Michael Lyon, Steve O'Keefe.

Never in the history of the Big Bash League has the finale seemed as lopsided as this one this upcoming match. Perth Scorchers will be up against a depleted Sydney Sixers side and things look heavily tilted towards the Scorchers. Considering that and the other factors stated above, betting on a Perth Scorchers win should be the way to go here.
