With a couple of matches being played everyday, CSA T20 Challenge is moving along at a pretty quick pace and a lot could change even in a couple of days. With the tournament moving as fast as it is, the teams, the fans, and the punters will have to be on their toes. These are early days, but the points table is shaping up beautifully already.
Up next in the competition, the Rocks are set to take on North West Dragons in a match that will be important for both these sides from the standings point of view, albeit for contrasting reasons. The match between the two sides is to be played at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth on Sunday, 13th February 2022.
Given the firepower that the Rocks have in their lineup, they will certainly be disappointed with the way they have performed up until now. Boland Rocks have lost both their matches and desperately need a win to bounce back into the tournament. It is not going to be easy and their experienced players will need to step-up to take them out of this tricky situation.
As it currently stands on the points table, Boland Rocks are placed at the seventh spot with zero points to their name so far. Not only that they are yet to get off the mark on the points table, they also have a pretty poor net run rate of -0.710, which just shows how poor they have been in the competition so far.
They did come close to a win in their last match with Janneman Malan scoring 45, but fell short by three runs. Besides, their bowlers looked largely ineffective in the first innings and they would want to improve in that area too. Having said that, they showed a massive amount of improvement in the performance they put in as compared to how they did in the first match and should take heart from that.
On paper, the Rocks have some of the South African international stars available at their disposal and that is why it is surprising to see them struggling. They will need the likes of Janneman Malan, Hardus Viljoen, and Pieter Malan to step up their game in the tournament going forward. If they can do that, the Boland Rocks will be well and truly in business.
Clyde Fortuin, Janneman Malan, Pieter Malan, Christiaan Jonker, Ferisco Adams, Shaun von Berg, Mickey Copeland, Zakhele Qwabe, Hardus Viljoen, Imran Manack, Siyabonga Mahima.
Exactly opposite to how the Rocks have been doing, North West Dragons are really enjoying their time at the moment. Not many would have expected them to get off to the kind of start they have had and now they will want to make it count. Keeping the momentum up is going to be difficult, but the Dragons are a capable unit and will be pretty confident of adding another win to their tally here.
As it currently stands on the points table, North West Dragons are placed at the top spot with nine points and a terrific net run rate of 2.182. With two wins in two matches, they are one of the only two sides who have not lost a match yet in the competition. Another win here will further reinforce their position at the top of the ladder and that is exactly what they will be aiming for.
North West Dragons are riding high primarily on the back of strong performances by their bowlers. In their first match, they defended a modest total by 11 runs and then rampaged past the Kings in their subsequent match. Against the Knights in their last match, their bowler did a splendid job of restricting the Knights to a total of just 94 runs, which was thereafter chased down with considerable ease.
On paper, the Dragons have an inexperienced but a very talented side. Their youngsters have oozed class up until now and will be looking to build on top of that. Johannes Diseko, in particular, has been brilliant and already has four wickets to his name at a splendid average of nine and a miserly economy rate of 4.5. Apart from him, Wesley Marshall has batted well for them, scoring 59 runs from a total of two matches at an average of 29.50 and a breathtaking strike-rate of 151.28.
All in all, North West Dragons may have looked invincible up until now, but they will be tested as the tournament progresses. Talent and resources-wise, they have a side as good as any. If their youngsters are able to keep calm under-pressure and play to their potential, beating North West Dragons is going to be very difficult in this upcoming match as well.
NJ Van den Bergh, Wesley Marshall, Lesego Senokwane, Dwaine Pretorius, Senuran Muthusamy, Nono Pongolo, Delano Potgieter, Chad Classen, Caleb Seleka, Johannes Diseko, Duan Jansen.

North West Dragons and Boland Rocks are currently placed at almost opposite ends on the points table, but things could change pretty quickly, given the nature of the format and the tournament. Both these sides have some of the highly-talented players available at their disposal and would be coming out hard at each other in this upcoming match. Considering the two sides on the basis of on-paper combinations and their recent form, North West Dragons appear ahead and are, therefore, our pick to bet on for this upcoming contest.
