Not many would have expected Sussex to be so low in the points table before the Vitality T20 Blast 2022 began. Their position speaks more about the competitiveness in the tournament and less about their ability. The South Group has been very competitive thus far with as many as five teams tied on two points each. The Next few days are going to be very exciting to see how the action unfolds in this group.
Up next in the South Group of Vitality T20 Blast 2022, Somerset will take on Sussex in a match important for both these sides but for different reasons. The match is to be played on June 1st 2022 at the County Ground, Taunton.
With three wins in as many matches, Somerset have undoubtedly been the best side of the tournament. Yes, Middlesex too have been equal as far as winning runs is concerned, but Somerset have looked far more dominant thus far. Surprisingly though, they have done so without performing at their peak and will be looking to change gears in the coming fixtures.
As it currently stands on the points table, Somerset are placed at the numero uno position with three wins from three matches. They also have a fantastic net run rate of 1.419, which is best amongst all sides in the competitions. They have the momentum and the team on-paper. All they'll need to do is to continue doing as they have up until now and if they can do that, getting past them could prove to be incredibly difficult.
Tom Banton, Will Smeed, Rilee Rossouw, Thomas Abell, Tom Lammonby, Lewis Gregory, Lewis Goldsworthy, Ben Green, RE Van Der Merwe, Marchant de Lange, Josh Davey.
Sussex have historically been one of the most consistent sides of the tournament and their start so far has been way off the mark. Not only are they languishing in the bottom half of the points table, they have looked far from comfortable in the losses they have posted up until now.
From a total of three matches gone thus far, Sussex have won just one. They are consequently placed seventh at the ladder and their net run rate of -0.836 just shows how poor they have been. Having said that, they have the experience and firepower available in the lineup and if they can utilize that well, Somerset will have their work cut out.
Luke Wright, Josh Philippe, Tom Alsop, Ravi Bopara, Delray Rawlins, George Garton, Harrison Ward, Obed McCoy, Archie Lenham, Tymal Mills, ST Finn.
With Somerset leading the table and Sussex languishing in the lower half of the ladder, the tables seem to have turned this season. It could all change pretty quickly but for that to happen, Sussex will have to find their mojo back. Considering how they have done up until now, it is going to be difficult. Somerset on the other hand have been clinical in all of their three matches and will be oozing confidence. Also, they have an immaculately balanced side, at least on paper. With the advantage of playing at home, Somerset certainly look the better-equipped side to emerge ahead in this upcoming match. Bank on Somerset to win here in this match.
