Sydney Thunder is going to play its final BBL 2021-22 group stage match against the Melbourne Renegades. Sydney Thunder is already guaranteed a place in the BBL playoffs and the Melbourne renegades have already been knocked out. There is not a lot to play for if you consider the overall effect on the standings, however, Sydney Thunder has lost its previous two matches and would not want to reach the most crucial part of the tournament with three losses in a row.
The cricket betting sites have given Sydney Thunder a clear tag of favorites coming into this contest.
Match prediction and cricket betting tips for Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades BBL 2021-22. The match is going to be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on the 19th of January 2022.
Sydney Thunder was absolutely smashed in the previous two matches that it played. The lack of balance in the team and the ultra-short batting lineup that it was playing with seems to have started causing the problems we had expected a long time back. In its current setup, Sydney Thunder is basically playing with three top-order batsmen (Gilkes, Hales, and Sangha). They rely on Alex Ross and the all-rounders to do the job for them through the inning and that is a dangerous ploy. Just one or two early wickets could put Sydney Thunder in trouble.
The bowling attack is going to be without Mohammad Hasnain who has returned back to Pakistan for the PSL and so that is going to need to be rejigged as well. Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha, and Nathan McAndrew still give it a lot of depth but the absence of a genuine fast-bowler is going to be felt.
Sydney Thunder remains a strong team but this could be the best time to play against it.
AD Hales, Usman Khawaja, M Gilkes, Jason Sangha, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Ben Cutting, Nathan McAndrew, Christopher Green, Gurinder Sandhu, Tanveer Sangha.
Melbourne renegades gave Unmukt Chand a chance in their previous match but he could not do anything of note. The team is already out of the playoffs race and so can afford to try out some new faces as it builds for the next season. It actually came close to beating the Hobart Hurricanes in their previous match, less than 24 hours before this one starts, thanks to an excellent inning from Aaron Finch. He scored 75 and was well-supported by Shaun Marsh who scored 51 but it was the same old story once they got out. No other batsman did anything of note and eventually, the Renegades fell six runs short in a match that could have been won quite easily.
The same two players will have to score the bulk of the runs against Sydney Thunder as well because no one else has stepped up for the entire tournament and so there seems no point in expecting anyone else to do so now.
The Melbourne renegades do not have a great bowling attack and not a single bowler from their side can be picked as having a good season. Maybe Boyce or Lalor can make an impact in this match but from a betting point of view, we just don't see the risk-reward ratio in being in our favor by betting on the Renegades bowling attack.
Aaron Finch, James Seymour, Shaun Marsh, Unmukt Chand, Jonathan Merlo, Sam Harper, Will Sutherland, Cameron Boyce, Zak Evans, Josh Lalor, Zahir Khan.
The team that wins the toss is going to want to bat first.

The conditions in Melbourne are excellent for cricket right now. There is no rain forecast and we should have a pretty good pitch for the two teams playing this match. The Melbourne surface has had a bit more life in it and that actually makes life easier for the batsmen since the ball comes on better to the bat. The average score seems to be around 160-170 and that is what we expect in this game as well.

We are going to bet on Sydney Thunder to win. This is largely because we think Sydney Thunder is a better bowling lineup than the Melbourne Renegades and also because the Melbourne Renegades have been just so inconsistent this season that one good performance does not mean another one is around the corner.
Bet on Sydney Thunder to win.
Jason Sangha has been one of our favorite batsmen to bet on during BBL 2021-22. His consistency is amazing and he almost always seems to get at elast a start. His Over/Under line is pretty fair considering his performances this season and we are going to continue to back him.
This is an excellent value bet in our opinion. Sydney Thunder is a very strong batting lineup with a number of players that are prolific six-hitters. The likes of Hales, Sams, Davies, or even Gilkes should help you get close to the line while a couple of big hits from the renegades will get you over.
